Swamp cooler and wood floors
An evaporative cooler adds humidity by design. What that annual swing does to wood and laminate.

The most budget-friendly hard surface there is, installed with the acclimation and expansion gaps that decide whether it lasts three years or fifteen.

Nearly every failed laminate flooring installation in El Paso traces to one of three things: the plank was not acclimated, so it changed size after it was locked together; there was no expansion gap at the walls, so when it moved it had nowhere to go but up; or water reached a seam and swelled the wood-fiber core, which is permanent.
El Paso dry air makes the first one worse than it is in most cities. Laminate delivered from a warehouse and installed the same day in a five percent humidity house will shrink at every seam over the following weeks. There is no fixing that afterward.
The AC wear ratings we quote from are the industry scale maintained by the North American Laminate Flooring Association, and the humidity range that drives the shrinkage is recorded by the National Weather Service office in El Paso.
Laminate is the most forgiving floor to buy and the least forgiving to install. It clicks together, it looks convincing, and a weekend project seems entirely reasonable. Then a year later the seams have opened, or the middle of the room has lifted, or a corner is swollen and soft.
Not in a truck, not in a garage. In the room, in the conditions the floor will live in, before a single plank clicks together.
At every wall and transition, hidden under baseboard and trim. Skipping them is the reason floating floors lift in the middle.
Laminate is thin and unforgiving of an uneven substrate. A dip under a floating floor becomes a bounce you feel every day.
The wear ratings built for real household traffic rather than light residential use. Worth the small step up in a house with kids or dogs.
A sealed core and a tighter locking system. Better than standard laminate around a kitchen, though it is still not the same as waterproof.
The looks that most convincingly read as wood at a laminate price.
Laminate is a good floor in the right room, and we would rather point you at the right product than sell you the wrong one. See luxury vinyl plank ›
We measure, check the slab for flatness and moisture, and look at your transitions and door clearances.
Material, labor, prep, demo and haul-away, itemized.
In the room, in the conditions the floor will live in. This is the step that decides how the seams look in year three.
Old flooring out, slab cleaned and leveled where it needs it.
Correct underlayment for the product, and expansion gaps at every wall and transition, hidden under baseboard and trim.
Bedrooms, offices, closets, living rooms and hallways. Anywhere that needs to look good and stay within a budget, and where standing water is not part of daily life.
It is a genuinely good value in those rooms, and we install a lot of it.

Most laminate installations in El Paso land between $5 and $9 per square foot installed, material and labor together. Basic laminate in a simple layout sits at the low end. Higher wear ratings, water-resistant products, and slabs that need leveling move it up.
That is a typical market range, not a quote. The free in-home measurement is how you get a real number, in writing.
| Option | Typical installed range | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| AC3 basic laminate | Low end of the range | Simple rooms, flat slab |
| AC4 laminate | Middle of the range | Wear rating, plank width, texture |
| Water-resistant laminate | Upper middle | Sealed core, tighter locking system |
| Any job needing slab leveling | Adds to the range | Amount of leveling compound and labor |
Ranges reflect typical El Paso market pricing for installed laminate, not a quote from El Paso Flooring Pros. Your written estimate is the only number that applies to your house.
Both options include the free measurement, the written itemized quote, old flooring removal and subfloor prep.
Tell us the rooms and the look you want and we quote one all-in installed price using material at contractor pricing.
Bought it on sale somewhere? We install any major brand, and you pay for labor only.
One year on our workmanship, plus the manufacturer warranty on the material. If something we installed fails within that year because of how it was installed, we come back and fix it.
Free in-home measurement. Written itemized quote before any tools come out. Removal and haul-away of your old flooring, including carpet, at no extra charge.
No. Water-resistant laminate handles a spill you wipe up. Standing water at a seam will still swell the wood-fiber core, and that damage does not reverse. If the room gets wet regularly, look at luxury vinyl plank instead.
Dry air. Laminate installed without acclimating to a house sitting at five to forty percent humidity shrinks after it is locked together, and it shows at the seams. Acclimation prevents it. Nothing fixes it afterward.
Usually yes, if the tile is sound and flat, with the grout lines filled and the right underlayment. We check door clearances too, since the added height can bind a door.
Laminate usually costs less and often looks slightly more like real wood. LVP is waterproof and more stable in temperature swings. For bedrooms and living rooms, laminate is a fine choice. For anywhere near water, LVP.
It is the abrasion resistance rating. AC3 is light residential. AC4 handles normal household traffic. AC5 is commercial grade. In a home with kids or dogs, AC4 is the floor we would start at.
Most single rooms are one day after acclimation. Whole-home projects are usually two to four days including demo and prep. Acclimation happens before that and is not lost time, it is the part that makes the floor last.
